Karim Nagi (Cairo) is the founding member and manager of Sharq. Karim teaches Arabic Music at the New England Conservatory. Karim also produces events including the famous Arabesque Mondays at Club Passim, where Karim promotes virtuosi Arab and Eastern artists. Karim is also a traveling lecturer and workshopist with his Arabic Music, Dance and Culture presentations. Karim plays the Riqq, a fish skin tambourine with brass cymbals. Kareem Roustom (Damascus) is the musical director of Sharq. Kareem is a composer who has composed film, television and concert music. Currently, Kareem is an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University and UMass Dartmouth. Kareem's studies took place at the Berklee College of Music and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where he received a B.A. in Music Business and Performance. Kareem plays the Oud, a fretless lute with 5 sets of double strings and a single bass string.

Jamal Sinno (Beirut) is the best known and busiest performer of his instrument in the USA. Jamal has performed with great singers like Majda Rumi and Kazem al-Sahir, the orchestra of Salim Sahab, and the great oudist and violinist Simon Shaheen. Jamal plays the Qanun, a lap harp zither with 96 strings.

Albert Agha (Aleppo) is the newest and youngest member of Sharq. Albert is the only person his age that has endeavored to learn the classical vocal repertoire. Albert studied Maqam, vocal technique and Oud performance with Simon Shaheen. Albert performs as the group's lead Vocalist .

Eylem Basaldi (Istanbul) is a graduate of New England Conservatory and is currently a graduate student at NEC's School of Contemporary Improvisation. She currently performs with the Boston Philharmonic, and has several dozen private students. Eylem plays the Keman, a retuned violin.

Boujemaa Razgui (Marrakesh) is a multi-instrumentalist. Boujemaa performs all Arabic music styles, from Andalusi, N. African, Oriental to Folk. Boujemaa was a very well known performer in both Paris and Montreal before moving to America. With Sharq Boujemaa plays the Nay, a reedless baboo flute with large finger holes.

Supporting musicians include violinist Hanna Khoury who is featured on the new "Revival" CD, and nayist Nikolai Ruskin who joined Sharq on their 2004 summer tour. Special thanks go to Saeed Khoury and Dr. M. Saab, our first members.
